Pulham Market Millennium Tapestry
After Five years dedicated work, Pulham Market is proud to open its Millennium Taestry to general view on Sunday 21st August. What started as a small project in February 2000 grew to a tapestry measuring 6ft. 6in. by 4ft. 6in. with work involving many members of the community and including children from the village school. Research and design were carried out by local people and it was fifteen months before the first stitch was worked. The tapestry is made up of nine panels depicting activities in the village over the centuries, up to the present day. It is stitched using over 500 mixes of wool and 608,000 stitches - this does not include those stitches that did not meet the necessary high standards and which had to be removed and restitched! The basic design is enhanced with details top stitched on the wool with silk. A magnificent English oak cabinet , designed and made by a local furniture maker displays the tapestry in three panels to form a triptych. Viewings for groups and parties can be arranged by contacting:
