Harleston & District u3a’s next talk, on 21 September at 2.00 pm in St John’s Church Harleston, presented by Janette Robinson, is entitled Flora Sandes. Flora, who came from Suffolk, was just about the only Western woman to join a WW1 army, as a woman who wasn’t disguised as a man. She was enrolled in the Serbian Army, became a sergeant and later a captain, and fought on the front line.
